Cell Phone Policy
CELL PHONE POLICY
All Hampton County High School students must have their personal electronic devices, such as mobile phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and similar items, turned off and securely stored during the school day. This is now mandated by state law and is designed to create a focused and distraction-free learning environment that supports student success.
Implementation at School
1. Device Storage:
o Devices must be powered off and stored in lockers, backpacks or bags -not in pockets or purses. Devices should not be visible, audible, or in hand.
o Students may not use their devices during the instructional day.
2. Exceptions:
o Devices may be used when pre-approved for instructional purposes by school administration only.
o Students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), medical plan, or Section 504 accommodation that requires device use will be permitted to do so.
o Emergency situations, as deemed by administration, may also allow for limited use.
3. Disciplinary Actions:
o Violations of this policy will follow the 2025-2026 Student/Parent Handbook (page 72-73).
4. Contacting Students During the Day:
o If you need to contact your child during school hours, you can call the front office at 803.943.3568. Our staff will ensure urgent messages are promptly delivered. Please do not email your child’s teacher(s) or counselor to relay messages.
